Contact Lens Solutions Suitable for Your Needs

Have you ever looked at the aisle of contact lens solutions at your favorite store? It is enormous. Why are there so many different types of solutions for contact lens wearers? What are they? What do they do? Which ones do I need?

Which type of care system is best for you depends on your lenses, your wearing schedule, and your lifestyle. Discuss it with your doctor. Contact lenses need to be cleaned, disinfected, and stored safely.

But what is the difference between cleaning and disinfecting?

Cleaning removes deposits, debris, and some microorganisms from the surface of the Lens. Disinfection kills the germs on the lens, thus reducing the risk of serious eye infections.

Now, what about all of those different solutions?

Multipurpose solutions are all in one solutions that use chemicals to clean, rinse, disinfect and store lenses. There are many different brands of the multipurpose solution, as this is the most common system used by my soft contact lens wearers.

Hydrogen Peroxide Systems clean, disinfect, and store contacts. Because the peroxide can irritate the eyes, a special case is required for these systems. While less popular, peroxide systems are excellent systems, that work especially well for people with allergies, dry eye, or who have sensitive eyes.

Saline solution can be used to rinse contact lenses. It does not clean, or disinfect, and should not be used to store contacts. Most modern systems do not require saline at all. And if you are using saline, you must also have another solution to clean, disinfect and store your lenses. Daily cleaners clean your lenses. They do not disinfect, and they are not used to store the lenses. With today’s disposable lenses, most people do not require daily cleaners.

Protein removers clean protein off the surface of the lens. Protein removal was necessary in the past. But most people will not have protein buildup if they replace their lenses as recommended.

The most common systems available are Multi-Purpose Care Systems and Hydrogen Peroxide Care Systems.

Multi-Purpose Care Systems

• BIO TRUE
• Uses Hyaluronan, a lubricant found in your eyes, to naturally hydrate your lenses
• Matches the pH of healthy tears
• Conditions, cleans, removes protein, disinfects, rinses, and stores
• For hydrogel and silicone hydrogel contact lenses
• Instructions for Use
• Place at least 3 drops of Biotrue multi-purpose solution on each side of the lens surface and gently rub for 20 seconds.
• Thoroughly rinse each side of the lens for 5 seconds with Biotrue multi-purpose solution.
• Place cleaned contact lenses in the lens case and fill with fresh Biotrue multi-purpose solution. Soak at least 4 hours. Remember to always use fresh solutions.
• Discard solution from the lens case after each use.
• BLINK REVITALENS
• Cleans, rinses, disinfects, removes protein, stores, and conditions
• For hydrogel and silicone hydrogel contact lenses
• Instructions for Use
• Wash your hands with soap and water and dry with a lint-free towel prior to handling your lenses.
• Place 3 or more drops of Blink Revitalens Multi-Purpose Disinfecting Solution on one side of the lens surface.
• RUB your lens gently from the center to the edges for 2-4 seconds (never rub in a circular motion, because it may tear the lens and not clean the outer edge surface).
• Turn the lens over and repeat steps 2 and 3.
• RINSE each side of the lens for 5 seconds with fresh Blink Revitalens Multi-Purpose Disinfection Solution. Place the lenses in a clean lens case and fill with Blink Revitalens Multi-Purpose Disinfection Solution. Close the lens case caps tightly.
• SOAK allows lenses to soak for a minimum of 6 hours for disinfection, cleaning, and protein removal.
• OPTI-FREE EXPRESS
• Polyquad and Aldox get rid of microorganisms that can cause eye infections
• For hydrogel and silicone hydrogel contact lenses
• Instructions for Use
• Thoroughly wet each side of the lens with the solution.
• Rub the lens for 20 seconds.
• Rinse each side of the lens for 10 seconds with a steady stream of solution.
• Fill the lens case with solution and place lenses in case.
• Tighten the case and wait overnight or at least 6 hours.
• OPTI-FREE PURE MOIST
• Polyquad and Aldox get rid of microorganisms that can cause eye infections

• Cleans, reconditions, rinses, disinfects, and stores

• Thoroughly wet each side of the lens with Opti-Free Puremoist Solution.
• Rub the lens for 20 seconds.
• Rinse each side of the lens for 10 seconds with a steady stream of Opti-Free Puremoist Solution.
• Fill your lens case with a fresh Opti-Free Puremoist Solution.
• Store lenses in the closed lens case overnight or for at least 6 hours. After soaking,
• Lenses are ready to wear.
• OPTI-FREE REPLENISH

• Instructions for Use
• Thoroughly wet each side of the lens with Opti-Free Replenish solution.
• Rub the lens for 20 seconds with Opti-Free Replenish solution.
• Rinse each side of the lens for 10 seconds with a steady stream of Opti-Free Replenish solution.
• Fill the lens case with Opti-Free Replenish solution and place lenses in case.
• Tighten the case and wait overnight or at least 6 hours.
• RENU
• Instructions for Use
• Place 3 drops of Renu multi-purpose solution on each side of the lens surface and gently rub for 20 seconds.
• Thoroughly rinse each side of the lens for 5 seconds with Renu Multipurpose Solution.
• Place cleaned contact lens in the lens case and fill with fresh Renu Multipurpose Solution.
• Soak at least 4 hours. Remember to always use solution fresh from the bottle- never reuse solution.
  

Hydrogen Peroxide Care Systems

• CLEAR CARE PLUS
• For hydrogel, silicone hydrogel, and RGP contact lenses
• Instructions for Use
• Remove and place each lens into the appropriately marked L/R domed lens holder, and thoroughly rinse with Clear Care Plus for 5 seconds.
• Fill the Clear Care Plus lens cup up to the fill line with Clear Care Plus and place the lens holder in the lens cup. DO NOT OVERFILL OR UNDERFILL.
• Tighten the cap on the Clear Care Plus lens cup and STORE LENSES FOR AT LEAST 6 HOURS. DO NOT SHAKE THE CASE.
• After washing, rinsing, and drying your hands, remove your lenses from the lens holder. If desired, rinse lenses with sterile saline. Your lenses are now ready to wear.
• Discard the used solution. Rinse the Clear Care Plus lens cup and lens holder with sterile Saline or fresh Clear Care Plus- DO NOT USE TAP NON-STERILE WATER. Allow the lens holder and cup to air dry. Store the holder cap side down, to avoid the potential for contamination.
